Instructions for Process

Once you have a blog, you need to become the voice of authority.  One way to do this is by writing trustworthy instructions so blog readers can perform a skill or process.  You will select a blog-related subject that you can write and post the instructions for your readers.  Use the planner to create your post. This should include the following items:

  • An introduction section
  • A list of needed materials
  • A step-by-step process for performing the task, with no missing/out of order info
  • A warning/caution section
  • A conclusion

    1. I like that you even included some recommendations at the end. It keeps the audience interested. One thing to conclude is what worked well when you made the craft around thanksgiving time with your friends.

    2. This should go with Brandon's so I will pretend it is under his new post. :)

  2. So you want to train in MMA? The fast growing sport to date. If you answered yes, then you are in the right place. Because this blog will make sure you choose the right gym to do so in.
Some things you will need to have? Not much. All you need is some time on your hands and an electronic device with internet.
First thing I would recommend doing is typing in “MMA Gym near me.” If your location is on it will be very easy for the device to pick up gyms that are closest to you and will normally give you a variety of options. If you don't have the location on, I recommend doing so.
After you see the list of jobs, what you want to do is think about what you are looking to get out of an MMA gym. Are you there to train for a fight, get in shape, or there just to say you train in Mixed Martial Arts? Any of those have a gym that will help you with your problem.
Let's say you had the first question I mentioned. What gym will train me for an actual fight and help me become a cage fighter? I would look at the list and look at the most popular name. I would choose that strictly because it is known for a reason. Either there is a successful fighter or trainer in that gym. That is perfect in this case because if it happens to be a good and known fighter then you have a good training partner to push you to moving forward in the sport. Same goes for having a known coach at that gym. Having a popular gym also is good for getting fights. Promoters want to have a fighter from a popular to get more in attendance. More money for them, the gym, and you.
Next we have the one that is strictly looking for a good workout without having to sign up at a regular weight lifting gym. I personally do think MMA is the best workout so I completely understand this choice. I would stray away from the popular MMA gyms because although you are doing MMA, at the end of the day you are training for a fight. What you want is a cardiovascular workout that involves MMA. For that option, there are actual “MMA” gyms around the world that strictly are for working out and doing MMA moves and skills. You won't learn how to physically dismantle someone in a cage or ever get punched, but you will learn how to get the body of a UFC fighter and be in great physical health.
When it comes to looking cool, I would honestly just find a different hobby. Pretending to be a fighter can be seen as disrespectful to the actual fighters that put their lives on the line in the cage for ones entertainment. I would recommend getting into ping pong or soccer or some sport you won't get tested in for claiming you are an athlete in that sport.

    1. I like how your directions are talked through rather than numbered like most instructional blogs. I felt like I was being talked to rather than being told what to do. I would have loved to see more separation between your paragraphs so its easier to read, but other than that it was overall good. I was wondering if these were the steps you took in order to find your gym and what you were looking for. Also, is an MMA gym used for both MMA and others who just want to workout as well. I hope you could cover these topics in your future posts.

    2. I got lost multiple times throughout your blog. I think it would be better if you broke it down into chunks. There were also times were I was confused. In the beginning, you explained that "you will need an electronic device with internet." This is good, but then you explained that you should type in "MMA Gym near me" but where would I type that? Google? Google Maps? There were also times were I was not interested in reading your blog anymore. I felt there was a lot of run-on sentences. I suggest you shorten your sentences next time you post.

    3. I like how you introduce your topic in he beginning. I think your blog would be more efficient if you bullet pointed or number the steps. You could also break the paragraphs into chunks. It would make it easier for the readers and they will be less likely to get lost while reading.

  3. For my first post, I would love to share my all time childhood favorite, the hand turkey. The hand turkey is a basic craft that works as a beginner for all ages. Although this craft is intended to be created around the thanksgiving holiday, it is still a good craft to start with any time of the year. I personally was making hand turkeys with my children each year to around the age of ten. They both seemed to love them just as much as I did! Although this craft mainly focuses on the basics of craft making, the experiences of creating with your friends as family is one of the most heartwarming experiences i’ve had. By following this step by step guide listed below, you and your children should be able to succesfully created the hand turkey.

    Materials needed:
Colored paper (brown, orange, yellow, red, and other colors if desired)
    Glue
    Scissors
    Markers (colors of choice)

    Directions for success:

    1. Take your brown paper and lay it flat along a hard surface
    2. Place hand palm side down on paper so paper is completely surrounding hand
    3. Trace hand using marker (be as accurate as possible to guarantee the best looking turkey possible)
    4. Remove hand from paper
    5. Cut the tracing of your hand out of the paper
    6. Place orange colored construction paper on the middle finger of your cutout hand
    7. Carefully trace the finger onto this piece of paper (focus on tracing this finger on half of this sheet to conserve paper later on)
    8. Take the yellow and orange colored paper and fold each in half making sure the finger tracing is on one half of the page only
    9. Cut along the crease made from folding on both pieces of paper
    10. Evenly stack pieces making sure the finger tracing is on the top of this pile
    11. Cut around the finger tracing cutting through all 4 pieces of the halves of paper
    12. Take the glue and apply a thin layer on the back of each of the 4 cutout finger tracings
    13. Place each of these cutouts alternating colors on the 4 fingers starting with the pointer and moving towards the pinkie (thumb is left empty as of now)
    14. Allow the glue to dry for several minutes before continuing on
    15. After allowing the glue to dry, cut a small curved piece of red construction paper out (this will act as its wobble (the red thing that hangs from a turkey's mouth))
    16. Apply a thin layer of glue to this red cutout and apply it to the back of the turkey cutout on the thumb making sure it hangs below the head and doesn't stick out the top (also allow this to dry)
    17. Draw an eye on the front of the thumb using any color of marker
Extra: This will complete required steps, but customizing is key! Use your marker to draw designs along your turkey and make it just the way you want it!

This project, although for all ages, can raise some safety concerns for younger children. Be careful with scissors and cutting out the pieces of paper. I personally recommend using safety scissors which can be located at almost all retail stores. Glue also can raise a hazard for young children, make sure the glue is used properly and not consumed. Other than these two small precautions, this craft is great to make with kids.

I remember in fourth grade when I first discovered this craft with my grandma after school. We had such a great time making it and I had an even better time showing it to my friends. When thanksgiving rolled around, my teacher even let my friends and I create a hand turkey for art class. All of us had such a blast personalizing our turkeys and hanging them up around the room. Like I said early, me and my kids used to make these all the time when they were young, and they are now even doing it with their young ones. A simple craft has turned into a family tradition among everyone. I hope that this can be the same thing with your family. Instead of having technology control our lives, sit down with your family and have fun creating something as simple as a hand turkey

Thanks for reading my first post! I look forward to sharing more of my crafts and families stories in the future, so stay tuned for those!

    1. Brandon,

This is overall very well! I was very interested in your blog, You had a very great intro! It pulled me into your post and made me want to read it! Great job! However, you should check for errors. I did notice a few. The last sentence of your first paragraph says: "By following this step by step guide listed below, you and your children should be able to succesfully created the hand turkey."

The word successfully is not spelled correctly, and as well you had said "created" this made me confused somewhat.

Overall, great blog! Just watch out for spelling mistakes. I'd go through and catch others you had made.

  5. One thing many people don't realize when they look at a Peta ad is that Peta is trying to manipulate the reader to make them buy into their organization. In this blog I am going to show you the steps to be successful in critically thinking about Peta ads.

    Materials:
    ~Yourself
    ~Peta Sheep wool ad

    Instructions:
1.Place ad/hold ad in front of you
2.Critically observe ad for a few minutes
3.Make a list of things you see in the Peta ad vs the picture of the real sheep
    a.Look for a claim
b.How does the ad appeal to emotion?
c.Is there a celebrity endorser in the ad?
    d.Do they have credible sources?
e.What is fake and what is real?
4.What do you notice about this ad?
5.How does Peta stretch the truth in order to appeal to the reader

Now that you have went through all these steps on showing how Pets lies in their ads, what are your thoughts on Peta?

  6. Your blog will not appeal to many, but the ones who are truly interested will find it helpful. I personally do not have the preference of reading your blog but I do understand your point. I enjoy how your steps have little points that use letters that aren't actual steps but help inform the readers. I however don't feel that these steps only apply to Peta ads because all company's use the same tactics for their products. An explanation on why these steps will be most useful for Peta ads rather than others would have been nice to have. I also notice you misspelled Peta in your conclusion. I would recommend re-reading your work to catch these tiny mistakes.

  7. In my second blog we will be talking about the eight sections of a business plan. For this blog I will only be going over one. The eight steps are below:

    Section I: Executive Summary
    Section II: Introduction
Section III: Analysis of the business situation
Section IV: Planned operation of the proposed business
    Section V: Planned Financing
    Section VI: Conclusion
    Section VII: Bibliography
    Section VIII: Appendix

You will need the following materials to complete your business plan:

    An Internet connection (for research)
Library Card (if you would like to check out books to research more on products or business concepts for your business)
Microsoft Word, and Excel (You may use Google Docs but Microsoft Office is preferred)

Once you have these items please do the following:

    1. Open up a Word document

2.Make sure your font size is set to 12.

    3. Make sure that your font is set to Times New Roman, or something else that is BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL.

Once you have done this then you are ready to go!

Today we will be going over Section I. This is the Executive Summary. The Executive Summary gives an overview of many sections of the business plan and gives an outline of what your business will be about.

The Executive Summary is the first step to writing your business plan. This section explains what your business will be about and your businesses vision. It also explains your entire business plan as a whole.

Note: The Executive Summary is a ONE PAGE document. Do not make your summary anymore than one page.

    Steps:
    1. Open your Business Plan on a Word Document. Make sure your font, and font size is set correctly.

    2. Make sure your Business Plan is in the correct format. I will provide a link to my executive summary so you may review the correct format.

    https://docs.google.com/a/kmsd.edu/document/d/1gsXPaANFuEc9TZSNmKe__DdFmwtZJnTrsQ5GI0P63l4/edit?usp=sharing

    3. Once you have the correct format you will need to know what your business is about. You should already have an idea on what you are starting. If you don’t then you should start researching about what you want to do. Once you have background information than you may start.

    4. Start by knowing what products/services your business will have. Complete the appropriate research based on the type of product or service you would like to sell. For example: If you are going to be selling shampoo and conditioner that is completely natural I would start researching ways to make a natural shampoo and conditioner. But remember your product or service has to be different than everyone else's. This means I would not use anyone else's recipe. You can get in very big trouble.

    5. Plan out ways that you can get your business more customers. You could use social media such as: Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. These will help promote your business and gain customers.

    6. Once you have these items then start putting them all together in a ONE PAGE document. This will become your executive summary. Later in your business plan, we will be doing a comprehensive analysis of each of the things you had explained here. There will be more to add to the Executive Summary. There is more to add to the executive summary such as: Finances. We are skipping this part for now because we do not have any numbers to deal with. We will be completing this part later.

Depending on the type of business you are starting, there might be some safety concerns. It is YOUR job to find these out and outline them in your business plan.

The end result should be something similar my example. There will be a few missing items, but we will be covering those later in my blog. Make sure that your one page summary talks about most of the important things of your business. This is not an easy task to do. Writing a business plan is a very hard task, and requires a lot of work and research. You will need to do a lot more research as we go more into depth of your business plan.

Thank you for reading. Have fun writing your executive summaries!
